D. P. Harris Hardware & Manufacturing Co. Inc. has a rich history as a major player in American consumer goods, particularly known for their legendary “Rollfast” bicycles and high-quality hardware.
Historical Background

Founding: The company was founded in 1895 by De Lancey Harris in New York City. It became a family legacy, eventually being managed by his son and grandsons.
The “Keystone” Connection: While the company is most famous for Rollfast bicycles, they used the Keystone brand for a wide range of hardware, tools, and accessories. This included your lantern, which was marketed as a high-end “multi-purpose” tool for professionals and outdoor enthusiasts.
Manufacturing Powerhouse: In the early 1900s, Harris partnered with the H. P. Snyder Manufacturing Company. Snyder handled the heavy production in Little Falls, NY, while Harris focused on making specialty parts and managing the marketing and distribution that made their brands household names.
War Effort: During World War II, the company shifted its massive production capabilities to support the military, producing items like tent pins for the Army and radio proximity components for the Navy.
Post-War and Beyond: Following the war, the company thrived during the housing boom before eventually ceasing manufacturing in the mid-1970s. The firm was formally dissolved in 2002, making this “New Old Stock” item a preserved piece of a now-defunct American industrial icon.
