Stunning Original Antique Hand Carved Black Forest Wood Jewelry Box. See a lock but no key.
Lovely antique original circa 1880 Black Forest Wood Jewelry box with hand carved Birds and Floral decoration about with inside having Blue lined silk. The box has two square compartments and one bigger rectangle compartment below.
Still has most of the birds intact, most of these I’ve seen have wings and beaks broken off as this one with the back wing area having some chipping, not sure how much is missing so check close ups of that area in last two pictures, took me bit to notice it. Also one hinge screw missing and needs to be replace shown in 7th picture so be careful opening and closing not to kink the hinge. unfortuanly couldn’t find screw that small in my screw boxes but I’ll keep looking.
The condition is good for the age, with one wing having a chipped section, missing hinge screw, there may be some other light imperfections from age handling and making process but all in all a Magnificent piece!
Measures 7″ wide, 6 1/2″ tall and 4″ deep. Weight is hair over 1 1/4 pound.
